GRADES

To pass the course, each student must submit the following activities to the instructor:

 

TASK 1. SPAIN´S GEOGRAPHY INFLUENCE ON SPANISH HISTORY.

Objective: to know what is the role of the Geography in the past, present and future of Spain.

Materials: a *.pdf file  with the chapter corresponding to Spain in Tim Marshall´s book “The power of Geography”.

Deliverable: common discussion session.

 

TASK 2. URBAN DEVELOPMENT OF THE SPANISH CITIES.

Objective: documenting the urban evolution of a Spanish city through aerial photographs and Google Earth.

Materials: aerial photographs (excel file) and Google Earth.

Deliverables: each student must submit by e-mail the following materials:

1.    A document in *.pdf format that will contain two tasks:

 

o   A short essay (about 250 words in size 11) explaining the origin of the city analyzed and the possible causes leading to its creation.

 

o   A schematic map, with Google Earth support, showing the spatial extension of the main historic quarters of the city (at least differentiating the Old City, the Ensanches and the developments after 1950).

 

2.            A possible (walking) route locating at least 5 places (not necessarily monuments) that a visitor should not miss in your city. This route will also be displayed as a Google Earth Waypoints, and it will include precise locations and images (photographs, drawings, links to web pages etc…)

TASK 3. SPANISH LANDSCAPES IN DEVELOPMENT.

TASK 3.1

Objective: to apprehend the changes in landscapes occurred in Spain during the 2nd half of the 20th century.

Materials: paper “Land Use Changes in Iberian Peninsula 1990–2012” by D. Fernández-Nogueira and E. Corbelle-Rico.

Deliverable: a multiple-choice test.

Date: Wednesday, March 26th.

TASK 3.2

Objetive: to know the consequences of the integration of Spain in the European Union.

Materials: movie “La vida que te espera” and *.word file.

Date: Tuesday, April 8th.

Deliverable: a written exercise answering questions raised from the film.

Deadline: Wednesday, April 16th
