Travel to Santander and Information on Santander and Cantabria

Cantabria
The region of Cantabria lies along the coastal strip of Northern Spain that is bathed by the Cantabrian Sea. It is an authentic treasure of Green Spain, in the approximate territory that was settled by the old Cantabrian tribes. It looks over its coastline, as if pushed towards it by its high mountain ranges, where its waters start to run down the Rivers Agüera, Asón, Miera, Pas, Besaya, Saja and Deva, into de ocean, forming estuaries and wetlands of astounding beauty. The main tourist attractions of Cantabria are undoubtedly its landscape and privileged natural environment, together with its great artictic monuments, such as the many caves with prehistoric paintings, the roman village of Julióbriga, the medieval village of Santillana del Mar, and many more. For additional information on tourism:

Santander
Modern and cosmopolitan, Santander, capital of Cantabria, enjoys a privileged environment. Located to the south of the bay, which is considered one of the most beautiful in the world, Santander combines the mountains and the sea to perfection, letting you gently enjoy it from any of its numerous miradors. With 180,000 inhabitants, its profile is a calm city, wrapped up in nature and in eleven urban beaches, it is the perfect place to enjoy and relax. The city offers alternatives to all likes, active and gentle at the same time, it gathers all the conditions to fully enjoy the stay.

 How to Arrive to Santander

Santander can be easily reached by aeroplane from all over the world, via Madrid or Barcelona. It is well communicated by highway with Bilbao (1 hour driving distance), which has an international airport with direct flights to and from many european cities. Transportation between Bilbao and Santander is available by bus, as well as taxi or rental car. A comfortable night train is available to/from Madrid. A ferry boat communicates Santander with Plymouth (England) twice a week.
