Brief Biography

José Angel Gregorio was born in Bareyo, Cantabria (Spain ). He received his MS and PhD in Physics (Electronics) from the University of Cantabria, in 1978 and 1983, respectively. Since then he has been lecturing and working in various lines of research related to the area of Computer Architecture, in which he has been a Professor since 1995.

Throughout this time he has published over 90 papers in journals and conferences. Some of these works have had a significant impact on the development of new systems for routing, flow control and fault tolerance in interconnection networks for multiprocessor systems. It should be highlighted that some of the design proposals in which he has participated, such as Bubble Routing, have been used in commercial machines such as the IBM BlueGene/L.

Currently his main research interests focus on chip multiprocessors (CMPs) with special emphasis on the memory subsystem, interconnection network and coherence protocol of these systems. He has made several highly-valued contributions to some of the most important forums in the area of Computer Architecture and he is co-author of three patents of packet routers suitable for this type of systems.

Since starting at the University he has given more than 6,000 hours of teaching at all levels of degrees in Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering and Physical Sciences, the evaluation being positive and above average in all cases for each subject. He has participated in various PhD programmes at other universities.

He has participated in various project selection committees of the Spanish National R&D Plan, the ANEP and now belongs to the ANECA board of external experts. He has held various management positions and from 2004 to 2012 was the Director of the Area of Information Technologies and Communication of the University of Cantabria.
