I was born on October 6, 1955 in Segovia (55000 inhabitants, 80Km north of Madrid and the
most wonderful city in the world. Do you want a little information about Segovia?).
I went to the high school in Segovia. Then I went to the Universidad de Valladolid to study
Mathematics. I presented my PhD Thesis on Mathematics in that University in 1979 under the
supervision of Prof. Miguel Martín Díaz.
At the same time, in 1977, I begun to teach (Mathematics, of course) at the
Colegio Universitario de Burgos (another very nice city), where I spent five years. In October 1982
I won a position as Assistant Profesor at the Universidad de Cantabria (do you want information on
Cantabria, on
my University,
or on
my Department?). In
October 1987, I become Full Profesor of Probability and Statistics in that University, which position
I hold to this day.
I have devoted part of my activity to give dissemination talks. You can see a sample of them here.
I have worked as referee for around 50 scientific journals, 20 institutions around the world and 7 books and conferences.
I have been evaluating 38 PhD Thesis in 14 universities: nine of them in Spain, three in France, one in South Africa and another one in Singapore.
I have enjoyed a grant from the Spanish government since 1989.
In 2014 I started to cooperate with private companies and I have had contracts with ATOS Worlgrid and BSH (Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH)
My wife Estela and I have two children Juan, born on 1981, and Javier, born on 1984, and four grand children: Guille and Irene (born in 2012 and 2014. Regrettably, they live in Seville) and Diego and Jorge (born in 2015 and 2019. Fortunately, they live in Santander).
